Physical Exams and Diagnostic Testing

Puppies and kittens will ideally have 3 to 4 physical exams during the first 4 months of their lives. When you visit us for an exam, our veterinarians will check your pet’s skin, coat, eyes, nails and teeth to learn more about its health. Along with that, we can determine which vaccines may be necessary for your puppy or kitten. Our pets will also perform certain tests to check for internal parasites. It is important that your kitten is tested for feline leukemia and puppies should be tested for heartworms once they are one year old.

Pet Vaccination Schedules for Puppies and Kittens

Young pets are susceptible to illnesses and diseases that can be prevented with pet vaccines. Once your puppy or kitten is 2 months old, it should receive its core and non-core vaccines. Your pets will also need boosters for certain vaccines after for efficacy.

Spaying and Neutering Puppies and Kittens

We offer spaying and neutering at Magnolia Animal Hospital. Puppies and kittens will need sterilization at different times. Felines can be spayed once they are 8 weeks old, which eliminates the risk of pregnancy and reduces urine spraying. Your puppy should be neutered before they are 6 months of age.

Parasite Prevention

Fleas, ticks, and heartworms can result in serious complications, such as disease, in pets. At Magnolia Animal Hospital, we provide collars, sprays, liquid drops, and chewable tablets that can prevent these parasites and keep your pets healthy.

Pet Microchipping

We provide pet microchipping at our hospital. During the procedure, a small microchip that is the size of a grain of rice is inserted under your pet’s skin. The process is painless and helps reconnect you with your furry friend if they become lost.
